Players and NPCs are all members of races. Players get to choose their race when they create their character. NPCs are by default Outcasts. Monoliths are exceptions to this rule, as they are of race Outcast until they are captured, at which time they assume the race of their captor. A special and useless NPC, known as the Darkwing, is of the race Dryne.

Each race has its advantages. First there is the Dryne. The dryne race is a race of powerful dragons. Drynes are good fighters, but they arent very good magicians. The Drynes racial ability is their roar. When (to roar type "roar"). Their roar is cappable of paralizing other races, and causeing their enemies to flee from the room. The more you roar the more powerful it will be, but you only get 5 roars a day and if you roar over 5 times then your hp goes to 1. Official description
Next race is the Vrean race. The vreans are a race of spiders. They are about 5 feet long and are fairly average fighters and magicians. The vreans racial advantage is their ability to weave webs (to spin webs type "spin web"). Their webs though not very strong at first,can be fairly strong and when used properly can be, useful in fighting. When you are caught in one of their webs you can not do anything until you have struggled free. To escape from their webs you must type "struggle" to try and free yourself. Official description
Then theres the Shi-Kul. The Shi-kul are a race of angelic like beings. They have an even balance of strength and magic.They are humaniod except for their large and powerful wings which when not in use are folded neatly on their backs. One of the advantages of being shi-kul is the ability to fly (to fly type "fly"). With their powerful wings they can fly through the world much faster than the plodding along other races. Another advantage to flying is that they can fly over water. Most people dont know how to swim and being able to fly over water is a great way to get to places most other people cant and it is also a great way to escape from your enemies. Official description
Next the Spectrites. The spectrites are shadow beings. They lurk in the shadows and are very hard to see. They specalize in magic and arent very good hand to hand combaters. All spectites share some sort of link with each other. They are telepathic which is the ability to comunicate with their own kind (called hiving) regardless of how far apart they are by using theirs minds to project the thoughts to their own kind(to hive type "hive (message)". Another useful ability is the ability to teleport (to teleport type "teleport (name)". They can teleport to each other and cover long distances in an instant. This is very helpful for traveling but takes alot of turns and a good size chunk of hp. You also can't teleport if you have any less than full hp. Official description
Finally the Taer. The taer are rat like beings standing about 4 feet tall. They aren't very good at magic or at physical fighting. They have the ability to salp which is a slimy acid in their stomaches that builds up from eating dillfrogs. They vomit this up on their enemies causing a small amount of damage. Another useful ability is their ability to scurry (to scurry type "scurry (direction)". When they are surrounded by enemies and almost dead they can scurry and quickly dart out and escape.
