From RockServ
Thyrr is a long-time tourist of Rock. He started playing Rock 1 after a middle-school classmate introduced him to it. Since the original Rock's closure, zilla.net revival, and then its final (or, apparently not-so-final) demise, Thyrr has lurked on Rock 2 since the days when it first opened to the public at zilla.net. See nostalgia, below.
He's not sure exactly when that was, but the confirmation email for his now-defunct alt account is dated September 25, 1998.
Thyrr considers himself a "tourist" because he plays Rock 2 on a rather unpredictable basis, and rarely with much seriousness. Despite having had an on-and-off presence in Rock 2 for over 5 years, he remains at a newbie level of knowledge.
Beyond Rock
Thyrr is currently a first-year college student in southern California and self-professed geek with skills in programming, Linux, and slacking off. Since the original Rock, he has played several other MUDs, most of which were based on the ROT codebase (ROM/Diku derivative).
He later started a ROT-based MUD called Blades of the Apocalypse (versions 2 through 5; the first BOTA was run by an acquaintance) which ran from June 1999 to July 2001 and briefly revived from March to August 2003. It was a dismal failure.
He has more recently attempted to write a MUD from scratch in Python.
Nostalgia
Originally, the only area was the town, and it only the Town Square and a few other rooms. Plat later added a Sunshine Plains area that was eventually replaced with the Hills -- an area ported from Conflict of Interest. Later, the Nexus and Varmoth were added, then the Plains of Damnation and the Academy, and then Thyrr disappeared for about a year so he doesn't know what happened since then, besides the current state.
He's also trying to remember what the heck a Droidio is.
Thyrr also recalls being a guinea pig for the bleeding-edge Killol on his second day there, getting crippled by eating a dead Dillfrog, and playtesting the arena before Plat wrote those fancy "safety" features that protect your stats from getting reset to all 1's through a freak bug accident. And lots of other crazy things. He saw the days when Rock 2 could hardly stay up for more than a few hours, and later when 30-40 players online during the day was the norm.
